George Scorsis has more than 20 years of experience leading companies to growth in highly regulated industries, including medical cannabis. As the Executive Chairman of WeedMD, George has a portfolio of experience and understanding about policies that must meet health department standards. His role as an industry leader includes ensuring the safety of all consumers and focusing on using cannabis as an alternative to medical treatment.

Earning his Bachelor in Administrative Studies from York University, George went on to receive an MBA at Queen's University. During this time, he became a University Ambassador for Bacardi Canada, holding several executive roles within the company. As the former President of Red Bull Canada, George was instrumental in restructuring the organization from a geographical and operational perspective, growing the business to $150MM in revenue. He also worked closely with Health Canada on guidelines regulating the energy drink category while also establishing a corporately owned distribution model in volatile markets. George has also successfully conducted several M&A’s with the sale of Mettrum to Canopy growth for $473 MM, and most recently the merger of WeedMD and Starseed.

During the course of his career, George has held a range of professional titles and positions which include: Executive Chairman of Starseed, Chairman of Tassili Life Sciences, Chairman of AWKN, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Scythian Biosciences Corp., with all having a focus on highly regulated consumer goods. He also sat on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Beverage Association from 2012 to 2015.

Outside of his professional responsibilities, George Scorsis is actively involved in charity work, often to benefit the residents of his hometown. One of the beneficiaries of his time and financial support is the Agincourt Food Bank located in Toronto’s Scarborough neighborhood. He is also a supporter of animal-related causes and avid motorcycle collector.
